Creative Writing (& Artistic Enterprises)
ENGL 3013: Advanced Creative Writing - Short Story & Graphic Novel
This project was for an advanced creative writing workshop and is in two parts: the original short story and the graphic novel I made based on the short story. The short story was written for a weekly writing exercise, where we would pick from a list of prompts and write a "very short story" in response. I wrote a piece based on this prompt: "Write a scene where there is no thinking: only action, description, conversation." Our final project, then, was an opportunity to expand on one of our previous assignments, so I chose to convert this writing exercise into a graphic novel. This is a good representation, I think, of how the same idea can be conveyed through different means. You can view both pieces ˚。here ⋆.

Creative + Analytic Writing
ENGL 3618: 20th Century British Literature - Prose Analysis and Application
I picked this final assignment from my “20th Century British Literature” class, as it was an interesting mix of creative and analytic writing. For this assignment, we could pick from a list of prompts and then do a “creative experiment” in response to it. For the prompt I chose, my professor gave us recommendations for 20th century online image archives and instructed us to pick an image and write a creative piece that incorporated the image in some way. She also wanted us to include some of the rhetorical strategies from the course readings. After the creative experiment, we were to write a response about what we did and how we did it. You can read the piece ˚。here ⋆.
